MISSIONS for March
As Christians we prepare for Easter by observing Lent. Lent is a chance to remember the dark before the dawn, when Jesus took our sins to the cross.
This year at Trimble we are celebrating the 40 Days of Kindness during Lent. Our verse for February 28th fits in with our mission team’s March project – the Siouxland Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence (CSADV). The Bible verse from Acts says: “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Giving up comforts during Lent helps us to understand how much Jesus gave up for us. For example, go a day without a soda (or anything that costs money); then take the money you saved and use it to help a victim of abuse. Think of other comforts YOU could give up during Lent. Fill the brown bag for CSADV with items from their NEEDS LIST:
+non-perishable food items such as breakfast cereal, cooking oil, coffee, sugar
+diapers sizes 5 & 6
+toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant
+new bedding, x-long sheets, blankets
+new towels and washcloths
+new women’s clothing – pajamas, sweatpants,
+new clothing for infants and children
Many in our community know the trauma of an abusive situation. The CSADV helps by providing housing, food and clothing at a secure location where counseling help is available. They offer support groups for survivors of sexual assault and adult survivors of domestic violence. They can be reached at 712-258-7233 or 1-800-982-7233.
Throughout the month of March, brown bags in a variety of sizes will be available. Help Trimble’s mission team fill the bags; even one or two items from their list would be appreciated. They need to be returned to the fireside room by the end of the month. Thank you for showing your kindness during this Lenten season.
